TOMORROW TO ME
My body was the experimental jigsaw
Eyes like smudged windows
In each school lesson we'd stand in those
Disability frames
With the simplest aims
Of straightening a back or touching your toes
Tomorrow was as realistic as Pinocchio's nose
Tomorrow was something I didn't think I wanted
Tomorrow I’d never see
Tomorrow, I thought, was non-applicable to me
Maybe the Virgin Mary wondered about it
After putting away safely, the goodies of kings
Maybe a bird plans for it
As it makes a methodical nest and sings
But for me tomorrow was TV trapped
Filled with ‘just adapt’
The delayed onset, a fuzzy outlet
Only of wanting that flying car
And fantasising over Alanis Morrisette
Tomorrow is a glance
A limbo confused,
A wait-and-see dance
Tomorrow is always another chance
For the bright new everything’s
Tomorrow might just get in the way
Tomorrow might be inevitable
But I'm in the middle of today
